We market all classes of Prime Stock on a daily basis directly to reliable abattoirs. Demand is strong with large and small consignments being lifted daily. Primestock Activity Report
Border Livestock Exchange Ltd to week ending Friday 17th February 2012 sold 142 Prime Cattle including 62 Cast Cows and Bulls. 741 Prime Lambs and Cast Ewes also 114 Store and Breeding Cattle.
Prime Cattle continue to firm with good quality heavy Cattle in short supply. Top prices for Home Bred Bullocks went to Hallrule Farms, BonchesterBridge at £1,476 and West Kyloe, Beal at £1,426. Top price per kg to Shidlaw, Cornhill on Tweed at 360p. Home Bred Belgian Blue Heifers sold to 350p per kg Sharplaw Farm, Hownam. OTM Cattle showed a sharp rise in value selling to 330p per kg for 32 month old Heifers (£1,319 per head). Older Cows to 300p per kg for 10 year old Belgian Blues Ex Whitmuirhaugh, Kelso.
Lambs continue to sell well particularly Organic kinds. Tullochallum, Keith sold export weight Texel Crosses to 510p per kg and £107.10 per head average. Export weights to 445p per kg Raecleugh Head, Duns and Cardon Farm, Peebles.
Store Cattle are still very short and easy to sell. Prices: Charolais Cross Bullocks 18/22 months to £1,200. Limousin Cross Bullocks 8/9 months to £800 with similar ages Charolais Cross Bull Calves to £820. Breeding Cattle continue to be heavily sought after particularly regular aged herds. Prices: Limousin Cross 2nd to 4th Calvers in calf to Simmental to £1,710. 10 year old Pure Salers to calve in April to £1,350.
