Border Livestock Exchange Ltd was incorporated in 1995 by Logan Brown, James Logan and Brian Ruthven.
With backgrounds in the Livestock Auction industry extending back over 25 years each the three directors recognised that there was an opportunity for an independent company to serve the Farmers of Northumberland and The Borders. They were formative in the concept of selecting batches of well sorted and accurately described Prime Sheep and Cattle and targeting them to the Meat Plants to which they are best suited. In this way they were able to deliver to farmers efficiently and securely consistently the best returns every week. The same philosophy is applied to selling breeding and feeding stock to breeders and finishers who appreciate the direct movements avoiding disease, stress and bureaucratic issues. Hence our motto:
“LESS STRESS TO STOCK AND PRODUCERS”
The company consistently sell in season up to 8000 prime sheep and 350 prime cattle; and 500 store cattle and 4000 store lambs per week.
Because of their “feet on the ground” attitude with their customers - knowing what store and breeding stock the producers have to sell and, what stock is required by their retained breeder customers and feed-lot proprietors countrywide, large quantities of stock are successfully traded weekly.
This ethos ensures that the other areas of the company’s business (the Farm Stock Sales; selling of Farms; Grass Park Lets; Valuations etc) are conducted professionally, pro-actively and with integrity.
